2024RT Problem After Service

Post by omegac »

Hi all..been reading the forum for a while and now have a question of my own if I may.

I gave my 2 week old 2024 RT to a main dealer for a service, due to some damage I'd caused fitting engine bars, I also needed the radiator by-pass hose to be replaced, part 17128520220.

The dealer is insisting they have replaced the hose, but I am certain the original hose was fully engaged, and that this picture doesn't show a new clamp, or even the correct clamp.

I'm not overly confident in taking the bike back to the same dealer, as they have also scratched my brand new bike!

"replaced" hose, not fully engaged:

"new" clamp, which looks to me to have the same dirt and debris as all the parts around it:

The part number I have been charged for, and which is shown on exploded diagrams for this hose:

What has been fitted:

I'm not overly concerned about the clamp type, more concerned that the hose hasn't been fully engaged/seated.

This is how they sent the bike back, all are fingernail deep:

Looking closely at this photo, does it suggest that the hose has not been replaced. Did you mark it with what appears to be a green letter R. The hose certainly looks like it needs pushing further along the stub. Is there evidence on the hose that the original clamp was fitted further to the left.

Morning David, I didn't mark the hose unfortunately. The end I've shown is the same end that I damaged, so to get it to dealer I cut about 1.5cm off, and reapplied to, which looked exactly like the photo you've quoted, i.e. an inch or so of the stub showing.

I wonder if anyone with a current RT would have a photo or be able to take one, it's clearly visible under the right hand fairing.

Thank you.

It may be too late but if the dealer is insisting that they have replaced the hose, try asking them to give you the old one back as evidence.

They've sent a picture of a hose, whether it's mine who knows!

I've also just found some bodywork with screws that were finger tight, so it's now off to dispute the payment with Barclaycard and try and escalate it above branch level.

If anyone has photo of a properly fitted bypass hose, that would be a big help.

Thanks

Here's a picture of the hose set up on my GS, different bike I know! But the hose set up and stuff won't be far different.

Thank you, looks like both of yours are fully engaged, which I’d expect. They definitely haven’t fitted mine correctly.

Viewing from the top, there's a raised line on the return radiator pipe and a cut out on the hose for it to seat in to.
