I have just bought a an Optimate 4 Quad Premium, selecting mode 2 (Pb & CanBus) and connected it to the bike through the DIN port. How long should it take for the battery to be discovered, I've had it connected for 40 minutes and the CanBus LED was still flashing, no charge LED lit?
The battery on the bike was fitted new around 8 weeks ago, and shows 12.3v with the engine off.
I have since connected the charger direct to an old battery and it goes through the recovery process, so I assume the charger is fine.

Re: Optimate 4 Premium use
I just tried the charger on a F650GS Twin, the charger detected the battery via the CanBus straightway, so there is something different on my R1250RT.

Re: Optimate 4 Premium use
The F650 has been off for 2 weeks and the RT for a week. I tried turning the RT on for a couple of minutes, switched off and tried again, no change.

Re: Optimate 4 Premium use
Is that connection a permanent live? It could be the bike is OFF
I have one I connect to a tie I installed under the side panel with a connection to the battery, it's great for charging, and also using my tyre air compressor when needed

Connecting direct to the battery is fine, it's when I try to charge through the RT's DIN accessory plug on the right side fairing.

Re: Optimate 4 Premium use
It works OK for me, even if I connect it after a couple of days. I did however, find that sometimes the charger lead needs a bit of tension to make a sound connection through the din socket. I route mine over the top of the bars and down to the charger on the floor. Maybe you have a looser din?

Re: Optimate 4 Premium use
Sorted, I cleaned the contacts in the din socket, plugged the charger in and it found the battery straightaway
It's strange that the voltmeter/USB charger worked fine in the socket before cleaning.

Re: Optimate 4 Premium use
I have the Optimate 4 can bus edition. I recall when I bought it, I had to configure it for Canbus mode. I had to short the alligator clips in some procedure to set the mode.
Not sure about the Premium model.
On mine, it takes 0-2 seconds for the bike's ZFE controller to be activated and latch on.
I can hear the click right away.
