Loose Topbox

Post by Jeffem »

Hi all,
I’ve been contemplating getting a topbox for my R1200RTLC ever since purchasing it last year. After reading lots of advice I’ve now managed to get a reasonable 2nd one from eBay for £215. It’s an earlier model of the 49litre (with a handle) box and came off a K1300GT. My question is, do the rubber pads, underneath the box, have a tendency to lose elasticity over time?

The box seems to fit quite loosely on the rack and on investigation the rubber pads feel quite hard. I am wondering if the original bike this topbox came from lived outside and the rubber has aged prematurely.
Slow in, fast out.

Yes they do!

I found some hard rubber in the garage and made some shims to do on the pads! they are very thin but they did the job beautifully
