Pannier Damage
Schoolboy error with panniers not being properly locked.

Oh bugger! I did that on a Pan but it only got minimal damage, that’s bad… 
No, actually mine fell off. I really do need to read the posts instead of glancing at them, but my eyes were drawn to the damage I’m afraid.

Won't be many of us not had similar. You might be able to pick up a second hand lid.....

Aye, we live and learn and I guess making sure the internal restraint is fully connected and the cover is actually locked would have prevented this. Interestingly, I rode around 40 miles dual carriageway and A roads with nothing happening, it wasn't until I turned onto our farm track hardcore road the bumping caused it to open. I thought the scraping sound was 'new' but by the time i'd noticed it the damage was done.

When I came off the damage to the lower section. It was more or less as bad as yours. Cost me £350 for the repair and a spray job. I have enough paint and lacquer left to paint a top box and any other touch ups A lot cheaper than BMW wanted to the pannier outer, then plus spray. After that the rear bars were fitted.
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.

That looks like a 2013, 90th Anniversary RT.
Motorworks may be able to help with a used, less damaged pannier lid.
This one is listed for a Hexhead but I believe they are the same for a Camhead.

Thank you to all for input, I wasn't aware of Motorworks and you are correct, it's the 2013 90th Anniversary edition.
Prior to the accident I was in my local BMW dealership collecting some bike related documents. The sales manager had put the documents in that pannier and when I showed him pictures of the pannier (open with the documents inside the envelope he placed in there) explaining what had happened, he said he'd check in to options......... wind forward and given that he confirmed he hadn't checked the pannier was locked properly, i'm getting a new cover on BMW tab.
That's a great result however it's also a big lesson which as Doctor T advised, could have cost me £350
