Free Collection & Delivery

Post by Sullivj »

A change of plans meant that I couldn't take my RT for its service.

My 'local' BMW dealer has an offer on to collect and deliver bikes within a 20 mile radius. Despite living 29 miles away, they still provided this for 'free'.

Whilst it only needed an oil change, I got the usual walk-around video, telling me everything was in good order.

How much? Just £170.14. Pretty good I thought.

Good-Free collection
Bad-£170 for an oil change.
Unless they did other stuff to it that's an expensive oil change.

From my experience, the minimum a BMW dealer will do is a BMW Service (AW 5.00) and Engine oil change, with filter (AW 2.00).

An AW of 12.00 is 1 hour labour, if that is true, the hourly labour rate is £120 + VAT = £144.

£33.25 Oil, https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorc ... rod/209963

£7.90 Filter, https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorc ... prod/50832

£0.91 Washer, https://www.wemoto.com/bike/bmw/r/1200/ ... lly-washer

£42.06 Total inc. VAT & Free Shipping.

I'm not sure I see your point David (apart from you saved a few £s for using non genuine parts), but you're correct that the invoice showed 5 AW for for service 111 and 2 AW for service 11611. Both items combined were £70 plus VAT

burridge01 highlighted the cost of an oil change.

Thought I'd compare the BMW dealer parts cost vs those of equivalent spec., as supplied by me and used by my chosen BMW dealer.

Thank you for confirming the AW's and therefore the hourly labour rate of £144.

A.n.other has just had his GS 12,000 miles service at a BMW dealer, the hourly labour rate is £130 + VAT = £156.

The collection & delivery was free.
