I thought I'd share how I like to have instruments set up. I acquired the 2008 R1200RT with that Garmin Mount above the tac/speedometer. It looked factory installed and already had its own power supply. I found an adapter that fits in where the Garmin went and replaces that Garmin with a clamp to hold a cell phone and gives me two powered USB ports!
This was a good thing since the 2008 Garmin wasn't what I wanted there. I located an old cell phone and put the android app "DigiHUD" on it. It displays current speed among other things. That's what I have there now . (See attached Photo)

It's mounted on two RAM brand ball mounts in a shaded bracket made from pliable plastic from a "Rubbermaid" brand waste paper basket.
The ball mounts are zip tied to the handlebars. I need that screen to be close so I can read it properly. It's powered by the outlet on the left fairing.
That power outlet, I presume, was meant for heated gear, but I found a plug in that surfaces two USB ports. I'd never seen that particular kind of power port before. It was very handy for powering my cell phone.
I have the same handlebar ball mount on my FJR. It's worked well crossing the continental US a couple times now.
The Garmin mount was not especially useful for navigaton. It's too far away. As a digital speedometer, it ROCKS!
I wish I could duplicate that on the FJR. Instead, I have digihud running as a small square on top of the tomtom software in the lower left corner. It's almost as good, but the BMW wins that one hands down.
I hope someone finds this worth looking at.
