David! You are an astounding resource! Thank you, for that!

The bike is listed as a 2008, but I noticed the mfg. data under the seat says it was manufactured 2007...that makes sense ... to get it to market in 2008, you have to make it in 2007....

the range you show covers that.!

Confirms that the drive shaft/part # was changed to/from 01/08.

RealOEM is probably a more reliable source of information than MAX BMW.

the good folks at Beemershop replied to my query...
According to your VIN number you have a 10/07 month/year of manufacture so you need this driveshaft which fits the RT through 12/07:

Thank you for your email, I hope that helps.
Best regards
This is very encouraging! Even if the labor is $500, it's still doable.

thanks for the cross-reference service.
I hope to "wow" my mechanic at the BMW dealer with all this information.

I'm guessing the dealer will want to order from BMW directly, but wow, I can only imagine how much more expensive that would be.!

This looks like the same drive shaft from MotorWorks in the UK, https://www.motorworks.co.uk/driveshaft ... 03a-1.html

MotorWorks, "Associated BMW part 26117665803"

BeemerShop, "Replaces BMW part number 26 11 7 665 803"

Wow! For a guy who thinks changing the oil and shaft oil is a BIG deal, that's quite a procedure. Clint Eastwood once said

"a Man's got to know his limitations."

and he was right. I would never even attempt that! Still, it makes me think the local mechanic I use might be able to... cheaper than the BMW dealer.
Thanks for posting that video.

I've written to that shaft drive supplier to ask how long it takes to ship one. I want to be fully prepared when next I speak with the Dealer Mechanic.
