Just thinking ahead if I’m still riding come springtime I think I’m going to be forced to find a lighter lid, I’m so used to modular I’d hate to give that up but if it means going full face I may have to, my neck and shoulders cannot do this weight anymore.
My shoei neotec 2 in size large weighs in at 1.8kg with the comms fitted. Are any of the shoei lids much lighter so I could utilise the Sena 2 comms I have maybe
Well, you're not the only one with this problem. I had to give up a Neotec 2 because of the weight.
The Shoei NXR2 weighs 1300g compared to 1700g of the equivalent Neotec 3 (size S).
I'm using an NXR and a J-Cruise open face. I'm also trying a BMW System 7, but the fit isn't as good as the Shoei's.
If you happen to find and fit the first Mk1 AGV Sportmodular, that is incredibly light. Very little room for a comms mike and also used a D-ring closure.

I think these in my shell size weigh close to the neotec 2 Steve, it’s a great price and a nice looking lid though.
Do you not have something like helmet city near you.Surely be better to go and try on different makes/models in the real world(whilst you are wearing ya chosen jacket) Different strokes for different folks.
Failing helmet city, what about Sportsbikeshop. They stock a fair few helmets in shop ,plus you can order a lot to try on in the shop, costs you nothing and at least you'll walk away happy Absolute minefield getting our thoughts on lids.

Yeah I have a helmet city within an hour and a little over that for sportsbikeshop, just trying to get some ideas together so I know what to look out for, I really like an open face arai I had years ago but don’t fancy a face plant these days .

.... I'm also trying a BMW System 7, but the fit isn't as good as the Shoei's not so good....
I got a very good deal on a System 7 helmet a few years ago, thought it was fine, comfortable enough, then one day l tried on a Neotec II. Oh the difference in comfort and my System 7 now sits in the corner as a just in case spare. It's not that there's much wrong with the BMW lid, in fact it's very good, but as it turns out my head is Shoie shaped, not BMW shaped. You live & learn.
I'd recommend checking out the Shoei NXR2 at 1300g - that's significantly lighter than your current Neotec 2. The Caberg Duke II is also worth a look at 1500g and gets good reviews for a modular helmet. Definitely hit up Helmet City and try a few on with your regular jacket. Nothing beats trying helmets in person to find the right fit and weight.
I would like to add one thing: Whatever helmet you decide on, try it out at speed before you buy it.
My NeoTek2 is the noisest helmet I have ever owned. I discovered that bit of information driving home from buying it. The store refused to take it back after purchase

To be honest I don’t disagree, far nosier than the old worn out shoei multitec I had before.
I find mine is fine. Have you checked the adjustment to the lifting hinge? I understand there is some minor adjustment possible and it may not be sealing completely. Mine is quite a tight fit onto the main shell and needs a good slam to get it to shut properly.
I know I'm late to this thread but I too had problems with my helmet causing neck and upper back pain. I have a Neotec II and while it is heavy I didn't have any neck problems with for the first few years of ownership. The neck pain is something that has gotten worse over the last year, not unbearable but a nagging pain that was unwelcome on my rides. I'll be 75 this year and I try to stay in shape so I can continue riding as long as I can so I got my doctor to prescribe some physical therapy. I went twice a week for six weeks with the emphasis on strengthening neck muscles and range of motion. The weather hasn't been great in Jan & Feb but I have been able to ride close to 1K miles and the therapy has been successful so far. My posture is much better as is my ability to turn my head from side to side and my neck pain is mostly gone and doesn't intrude on my rides like it used to.
