To be honest I wouldn't bother buying any shims until you need them!

So I have spoken to BMW Motorrad and asked about the cam chain tool part number 83 30 0 444 292

I was told it was on back order and it would be around May time. So i have placed an order for one.

Will return the one i brought from MotorWorks.

So i returned the camchain tensoiner today to MotorWorks.
I rang them this morning and asked to return part on my order.
I was given a return ref number and was good to go.
It did cost me £5.30 to post it back, but that included £75 insurance.

So like a fool i forgot to order one part that is needed.
I thought the sleeve came with the tensioner tool, but it does not.
So i was on the phone this morning and orderd one, which was instock.

I know this will be on the forum already somewhere, but it might help others if they look at this thread.

The tools needed with part numbers

83 30 0 444 292 - Timing Chain Tensioner (from BMW)
83 30 0 444 282 - Sleeve for TCT (this is for the R1250 engine) (from BMW )
83 30 2 327 790 - TDC locking pin / Alignment pin; (from BMW)
83 30 2 467 268 - Cam Alignment jig (MotorWorks)
83 30 2 327 808 - Engine Turning Device (MotorWorks)

You will also need a 16mm Torque Adapter which can be got from MotorWorks

Edit... I removed the price as they could change over time.

So after reading about Panman40 having to wait 14 months for his Timing Chain Tensioner tool, after being told it will only be a couple on months. Like i have been told by Cotsworld Motorrad myself. I could not believe it when a full set of genuine bmw tools turned up on ebay. The seller had it listed for £100 plus PPF. As i only needed the tensioner i made him an offer of £115 just for the tensioner which is the £109.80 price new from BMW plus a bit for postge. But sadly it was not taken. So i kept an eye on the auction and waited to the last 5 seconds and put a bid in of £151. well no one else bidded and i won the lot for just under £105 posted. I have to wait till monday to cancel my order with Cotsworld for the tensioner. I still need the specer for the tensioner as i only have the one for the 1200 here.
So i now have the tools to do the timing on the 2014 onwards 1200 and 1250.

The tools i got off eBay.

So i was able to speak to the parts department at Cotswold BMW Motorrad to cancel my order.

Just so others know, this is what is now happening.

The parts department have to send a form to BMW Motorrad Germany to ask to cancel the order.
If they say yes then i should get my money back. If they say no as its already been sent out, then i stuck with another camchain tool.

Its not the end of the world if i have to keep the part anyway.

The idea being that if a valve clearance is out of spec., the next size shim (up or down) is purchased to bring the valve clearance back to within spec.
Having done my own shim change and wanting to get the clearance values in the middle I bought several shims and can confirm there is slight differences in the thickness of the same size marked shims.
