Wheel straightening

Post by andydavis »

I just got back from two months in Mexico on my 2009 R1200RT. I dinged up the wheel kind of horrendously on a couple of piche baches. Here's a photo. It's at the shop now. They previously straightened it after last year's trip (not as bad). My question is, does heating and straightening these cast wheels have weakening effect? It seems to me that the wheels are a fairly soft casting alloy...I'm guessing there will be no significant local hardening effects?

I'm asking: others have done this without ill effects?

I had my front one straightened here in the UK a couple of years ago, no problems.
