I have seen similar threads addressing this, but the information was inconclusive for me. All I have seen is that it may be time for a master cylinder rebuild kit ... or it might just be the brake lever pivot.
The bike has less than 29000 miles on it and, while not used often, it is in excellent condition and has been carefully maintained. Several years ago, the ABS module failed, I had it rebuilt, and everything has been fine since. I only mention this to note I have performed fairly comprehensive maintenance on the overall brake system.
The brakes work fine but ... .solid ... no sponginess, but when the lever is released, it sticks to the point that the pads still drag on the front rotors. Just a little forward press / click on the brake lever releases the pads, so I doubt it is a cylinder problem.
I have not been able to find anything on YouTube ... even regarding the simplest way to "attack" this project (How and where to remove and inspect or replace items) ... and even before I begin, I have not seen how best to "attack" and actually service the lever pivot / bushing and treat a rebuild kit. I'd love to see a YouTube where a hexhead master cylinder is actually worked on.
Never tried this before, but I have uploaded a short video of the "lever" issue. Any counsel and / or leads to YouTube or step-by-step procedures sincerely appreciated!
Whoops ... would not allow me to attach video clip. Here is link to Dropbox:

Re: 2007 BMW R1200RT WITH STICKING FRONT BRAKE LEVER
I had these symptoms on my K1200 and it turned out to be the brake hose deteriorating internally. Essentially little bits of rubber acting as a one way valve. Once changed and bled, all was good. Might be worth checking for sticky pistons first though as that's cheap and easy.

Thanks, Pannier Down!!
I've checked the pistons ... no sign of issues there, and have stainless braided brake hoses ... but could be.
Think I may check lever and pivot bolt first.
