Leaking bevel box

Post by Greefy67 »

Hi All.
I have an oil leak. I think it's on the splined part of the bevel box. It filled the swingarm and dribbled over my tyre.
There is a cutaway that it leaked out off
Is it possible to buy a refurbished bevel box. Or am I looking at a main deal. Will they even touch it now I've taken it off the bike?

I've sourced a second hand box of ebay, and fitted it..
The abs sensors are a different size. My original is a lot bigger than the hole I'm trying to put it in.
Does anyone know
A) Theres a difference in Size. i.e what does that tell me about the box.
and
B) what part am I now looking for to swap the sensors out?
And
C) is this going to cause a disco dash of errors?
Thanks for any advice.

Thanks David,
I don't suppose you know if a cam head speed sensor will work on a hex head do you?

Sorry, I don't know the answer but it begs the question, "why are the speed sensors different".

I suppose, you can only try it and see what happens.

exactly that.
I can find plenty of the one I've already got and no info about the change. So frustrating. A 30 minute job is taking days. And the weather is nice.

AFAIK, the Hexhead bevel box only has one drain/fill plug which is why it needs to be swung down to drain.

Whereas, the Camhead bevel box has got a separate drain and fill plug.

Mine is definitely a hexhead, and the bevel box I have with the small hole also only has the one hole so it needs swinging. I'm going to have a random 1 off that I can't get parts for. I can feel it in my waters.

From what I can see on the MAX BMW Parts Fiche, the Hexhead has either a GEN 1 or GEN 2 bevel box.

The latter GEN 2 bevel box looks like it has the same speed sensor as the Camhead.
