With inspirational input from some Users on other platforms I created an iPhone "Shortcut App" instruction sheet for two automations.
1rst a "WiFi plus App open" shortcut-procedure and for those who still have Problems with the connection 2nd a "Bluetooth-Wifi workaround" which switches a probably still connected home WiWi shortly off and on again to force a new connection with the Bike.
After programming that throwing your unlocked iPhone in the cubby is the last you have to do with that device. No WiFi acceptance needed and Maps start and -more important- restarts on its own. In case you need to start a planned route it's obvious that you need to choose and start it manually.
Screenshots are now bilingual so you should be able to find the right buttons. If not, hand the phone over to your grandkids.:-) Have fun! It works!

Re: iPhone BMW Connected Ride automation instructions
HI, there
Nice job.
Finally got it to work, but still ask me to join BMW WiFi every time I stop for gas or something else.
Am I missing something?

Re: iPhone BMW Connected Ride automation instructions
If you follow exactly the instructions it ahouldn‘t. Probably you missed the sub step „run immediately“ which is way down on the screen. The default setting is „Run after confirmation“ which leads to your result.
Re: iPhone BMW Connected Ride automation instructions
This was extremely helpful and it seems to work for me in my garage. To be tested in real word next time that I am riding.
Thanks for posting it.
Some weird stuff that I had to deal with: It take a LOOOnnng time for my phone to connect to the BMW wifi. It take 50 seconds from the start of the engine until it actually shows up in the phone. Another 40-50 seconds for it to actually auto-connect. As opposed to my home wifi that is almost instantaneous. So, be extremely patient.
There is no way on an iPhone to prioritize you wifi connections. So, you can't tell it to connect to BMW wifi before your home. Translation: disable your home wifi (auto connect) or move away from home to test this.
My way of doing it, and grant it, I am a bit of a geek:
1- Set up a focus mode for your motorcycle. Set your alerts/do-not disturb, etc here for how you want to be bothered during your rides.
2- Set up an automation that when your phone connects to BMW wifi, switch to motorcycle focus.
3- set another automation that automation that when in Motorcycle focus mode, start Motorred, and any other app that you want running, e.g., Music. Just make sure that Motorred is the last in that list, so that it stays on the foreground.
The reason that you would get a join network message is because Motorred is started before wifi connection. This should solve that problem. Hope this helps others.

Re: iPhone BMW Connected Ride automation instructions
Hi RaP. I have it working correctly I think. So when I restart the bike do I need to do anything ? Should it just connect everything automatically ? I played with it in my garage and I need to unlock my iPhone, tap the two shortcuts and it seems to start fine. It doesn't ask me to connect to the WiFi. Have I got that right ? VERY useful guide BTW. Thanks.

You should let these shortcuts run automatically. After that unlocking the iPhone is everything you need to do.HPTCC! wrote: Fri Jul 25, 2025 9:36 am Hi RaP. I have it working correctly I think.
