So the wife and i popped into Fords Newport yesterday to book her car in for a service and new cambelt/water pump as the car is 10 years old in June this year.
The total cost will be £1132 which i thought was high. The service is £209 and the Cambelt/water pump is £923.
Both the wife and i said "HOW MUCH". The guy at the service desk said its a good job you have the 1.5 diesel as the 1.0 petrol is £1900 to have the cambelt done as its a wet belt.
The wife brought the car at 3 years old with 23K miles. It's now 10 years old and has only done 47k miles.
But because most of that is to work and back, there only short runs. So we both thought it best to get it done as she is keeping the car.
So if any of you have a 1.0 petrol ford engine start saving now for the cambelt change.
And before some one says why go to the main dealer, its her car and thats who she is happy with working on it.

Re: Ford Cambelt/water pump cost
Considering you can buy a DIY changing kit for just under a hundred quid (incl VAT), and even allowing for genuine Ford parts being more, that's a lot of labour charges.

Given the age of the car, other than peace of mind, having it replace at Ford using Ford parts isn't going to add any value. Personally I'd be getting a quote from an independant garage. Mrs EasyRider may thing otherwise about who does the work when she sees how many new shoes, handbags and frocks she could buy with the money saved!
