stuck windscreen

Post by GravenorTG »

New Forum Member,

R1200RT LC 2016 plate.

Please can anyone help/advise?

Screen stuck in up position. Attempted to recalibrate the controller using my GS-911 and the calibration process starts and abruptly stops showing an error. I have tried a multitude of time going through the clearing faults and repeating the calibration to no avail.
I have accessed the real time screen section of the GS-911and saw that the switch is operating. (it should because I just spent a small mortgage on purchasing it from MPS in the Netherlands!

I am about to go through the task of stripping down the front end of the m/c in order to examine the operating linkage in case of a mechanical failure.

I have never calibrated any process before so I may be barking up the wrong tree, but after owning/riding since 1972 I normally scratch about and find some form of solution to the joys of owning a motorcycle and mechanical bits and bobs are up my street so to speak.

If anyone can just point me in the right direction I will be ecstatically grateful to end the misery I am going through with a shitty screen to contend with during our "summer" in the UK.

Thank you for reading my plea :blah:
I will await some kind directives from the vast amount of knowledge that must exist on such a popular marque as BMW.

Thank you for pointing this issue out to me. :?

I can see how a dislodged pivot could prevent the screen from operating but until i take the front off I won't be able to fully understand what the issue may be, mechanical or electrical as I am not too clever with electrical circuitry and I am hoping that the stuck screen doesn't mean that the motor is gerfunkt!

Post by beemerboy9 »

The part number for the PIN is 4663 7693 990
The part number for the Circlip is 0712 9909 733

May suit other years and models e.g. 2014--> R1200RT and 2019--> R1250RT with TFT.

Hi again John,

I'm still in the mire with this windshield problem and it appears that there is a short circuit on the screen lift motor. I am looking to get hold of a replacement either new or nearly new but the problem is I cant get the part number without stripping the front off the bike.

I have seen many a potential replacement on the purchase/auction sites but without a part number I cant really decide on what to buy.

Do you happen to know what the part number may be or perhaps know someone who has replaced theirs?

I did have a tpms problem but I solved that with the GS-911 and a quick deletion of the "wrong" tpms numbers.

Hope you are having a little more luck than me....the screen is starting to get on my wick now.

regards

Hi Glen, Just a quick update (perhaps someone else looking in might have an idea on what the issue is)

A new screen lift motor has been fitted by a reputable company and still no action apart from a very small (cm) movement when the recalibration process is attempted. The calibration still does not complete.
The bike has now been checked over by an authorised Motoradd workshop in Cardiff and the diagnosis is a "wiring issue"

I know that the switching is working as I have tested this real-time using my GS-911 which returned a Yes on the up and down.
The complete LH switching unit was replaced just a few months ago and everything on that unit operates as required.

I have been advised that a complete strip-down of the front of the bike is now on the cards after I put the bike in for the winter.

Is anyone aware of a "wiring issue" on the 2016 R1200RT LC specifically within the screen lift failure.

I'm being slowly but surely drawn back to the Harley Road Kings that I have owned over the past twenty or so years but I do love the comfort and all round capability of the R1200 and it's breaking my heart to perhaps have to move it on.
