Grey battery symbol on dash

Post by RSA »

Good Day all

Hope you are all well

I have recently run into a bit of a snag, in which I am sincerely hoping you knowledgeable folks can advise and steer me in the right direction

Initially had the amber battery light come on, which turned out to be the original battery from manufacturer. This was replaced with a new battery. Fully charged the new battery prior to installation. The bike starts every time with no lag

Resting, the battery sits about 12.4v, however, once I start the bike the voltage starts to drop and after a couple of minutes a grey battery symbol appears on the dashboard

I have removed the rectifier/ regulator and done a bench test using a multimeter, getting a reading of just over 1.1 resistance on each of the 3 pins. Would this be a reading one would expect from a healthy regulator

I have further carried out a test on the rectifier/ regulator plug whilst the bike is running with the multimeter, which shows readings of about 15v on all 3 pins, assuming this would eliminate a stator problem, however, I do stand corrected

I have also plugged in the obd for the motoscan app, however I am not getting any error codes. Not entirely sure if the app would flag this up or not

I would appreciate any advice and guidance with this issue, is this perhaps a common fault. I have searched high and low online to no avail thus far

My mechanical and electric knowledge has limitations, so please bare with me

Many thanks in advance

Cheers

Graham

I think you’ll find the battery light is for the key fob. My 2016 has keyless ride and it tells me when the fob battery is getting low by putting on the amber battery light. If you have keyless then replace the fob battery. Later models might use a different colour for this but I can’t suggest anything else other than using GS911 or similar to check for faults.
