05 R1200rt Servo ABS brake removal

Post by sgt_lovejoy »

I recently got a 2005 R1200rt for an very cheap price, and I'm happy with it except for one small issue.
The brake servos are failing. They work until moderate braking is applied, then they shut down and leave me with residual pressure. The self check still passes but this is a repeatable issue.

I want to do a servo removal and convert the system to a non ABS bike, and it seems fairly straightforward, rear hose to rear master cylinder, front pipes get joined together.
The abs pump can then be removed, however the electronic side of the pump should be retained and plugged back in. cover the red warning and brake failure light and you should be good to go right?

my confusion stems from the speedometer. some posts say that it will not work afterward, some say it gave them no issues and works fine. can anyone offer advice or does anyone have any experience doing this before?

I don't care about losing the red warning light, and I don't need to satisfy any inspections. however I don't have the money to rebuild or replace the abs pump, or bring it to a dealer for an expensive overhaul.

Have a look at this video (FF to 51:16), if the ABS electrical module is retained, the speedometer will work.
