Speedometer calibration and final drive

Post by Glavut »

Hello everyone,

I recently bought a 2005 r 1200 rt with 114000kms on it.

The speedometer reading is wrong, for example it displays 60 km/h when i am actually at 85 km/h

The only problem i have is that the final drive has been changed by the previous owner because it was dead and he put a newer model (2008) on the bike. I think this is the cause of the wrong speedometer speed reading.

I did some research and i found that inside the final drive, there is a ABS/speed "track" and it's diffrent from the 2005 and 2008 models (as seen in the picture).

My question is, it is possible to recalibrate the speedometer with the 2008 final drive or do i need to find the original 2005 final drive for the speedometer to work fine?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the advice, i didn't know something like this existed.

Do you know how to calibrate the speedo healer and if it's comptabile with the R 1200 rt ?

Because in my case it's not the sprocket or the tyre size that change but only the speed/abs track.

Thank you

it takes the reading signal and adjusts it to make it read correctly and doesn't matter where the pick up is or what you have changed

I can't remember how to set them up to be honest but from memory they are easy

I had one fitted to an old Suzuki

There is a drop down list to use to determine which one you require

I think i will buy the speedohealer universal because there is no specific versions for BMW's.

I will keep you informed of the progress.

If it works it will be great !

I can't see a specific version for the R1200 RT of your year but I would contact them first as you may find that there may well be only a couple of models and one should fit

For the universal kit, they say there must be 3 wires in order to connect the kit but on the RT, the speed sensor has only 2 wires so it won't work...

I only have motoscan and i don't think it is possible to adjust it for the 2005 RT.

Otherwise, i bought a speedohealer V4 - 2w for vehicles with 2-wire inductive speed sensor and i will see if it can change something.
