Help, 2018 R1200RT inner panel

Post by Mike262 »

I need a little help.
I took my 2018 R1200RT in because the fork seal appeared to be leaking a little. They confirmed it was leaking and gave me a quote for a rebuild.
On the ride home I noticed I could see wires and parts of the inner fairing that I don't remember being able to see before. Since I have ridden this bike 38,000 kms when something is different I generally notice. I assumed they had removed an inner cover to get a better look at the fork and forgot to replace it.
Since I was unable to return to the shop today, it's over an hour and a half away, I called them and asked if they might have left something off.
the service writer said he would look around and ask the tech. He called me back to tell me that nothing had been removed and they didn't have any parts that might be mine. He made it sound like there wasn't supposed to be covers.
This is what my bike now looks like.

What caught my attention first was that I could see a yellow wire in the harness that I am sure I would have noticed before.

I have tried to identify the "missing part" online using BMW parts fiches but I can't seem to find it.
Would it be possible for someone with a 2014-2014 R1200RT to look at this area of their bike and either prove me right or confirm my poor memory.
A picture and or name of the part would also be a great help.
Thanks so much.

Yep, that's normal. You don't have anything missing.

I put a strip of broad black tape on mine, to hide the cables.

Thanks for the feedback.
I rode this bike across Canada and from the east coast of Canada to Texas and back as well as numerous other trips and never noticed it before.
I guess I must have been looking at the scenery.
