Checking Antifreeze level ?

Post by Randyjaco »

Is there an easier way to check the antifreeze level on an RT?
I just can't see the antifreeze level looking through the port in the Tupperware. Even taking the Tupperware off and looking directly at the expansion tank, it is difficult to see. I have tried getting a flashlight behind the tank, but that doesn't seem to work either. Surely there is a hack that allows for a 15-minute ordeal to turn into a 5-second check.

I do use the BMW blue antifreeze.

Not found one yet. Considered sticking a couple of LEDs to the side of the expansion tank so it shines through and you can see soemthing in the window but not actually been bothered enough to actually do something yet.

Yes, I tried that on my 800ST and it worked. The only trouble was that the LEDs I used were not water/weatherproof, and they went out after a couple of months. I may try that again, if I find some better LEDs. Installing them was about a day's work :(
I am hoping for a simpler solution ;)

I just shine a torch up from the back

Then look from the front then keep guessing if I can see it or not!

Its a crap design

I tried mounting a 3 LED strip behind the expansion tank. It did not provide sufficient illumination to be seen in the daylight.
That blue antifreeze soaks up an amazing amount of light :(
