Engine numbers

Post by OverLander »

Hello,

Does anyone know if there is a way of tracing the engine number of an R1200RT ?

I ask because the bike I have had the engine replaced due to a drop.

The bike shows 31k miles and the engine apparently has 21k on it.

Im just interested to know where and what bike it came from and better still if I can trace any service history...

I did an oil change today and found that I could undo the oil filter by hand and there was no crush washer fitted to the sump plug.

I am generally happy with the bike but I am slowly working thru from front to back checking it over ...

I have found a few panel / faring screws missing. I will look for a fixing kit.

Thanks

Jon

When I told a Kawasaki-riding mate that I’d moved from a Pan to the RT he said “I don’t know if I can talk to you anymore then…”
I looked at him expecting to see a grin, but he appeared to be serious… not seen or heard from him since.
Some people are very strange.

That's nothing to do with the very nice man in the showroom/garage.More to do with the fact RT riders think they're shit don't stink

Look at your V5. This will give you somewhere to start. Ask a BMW dealer where the engine number is
Trust me I am a retired Doctor and lecturer at Oxford University of Structural and Mechanical/Electrical engineering.
May the shaft be with you

I was about to suggest that the BMW RT may be classed as the Gentleman’s Express and therefore the epitome of true class in two-wheeled transportation, but a quick Google search reveals that the most used marque in The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride is in fact the Triumph. So that’s my argument right down the tubes!
